With no direction, slacked off and barely tried, I no longer thought of dropping out and I knew I had to do enough to get by, so I never failed a class, If I failed I would not have enough credits to pass and graduate with my friends My friends were always there for me when I needed them. I was driven to show myself and the people around me and my family that I could be successful in life and that their support transformed me into the person that I really am. In middle school, all I cared about was fitting in with the others, which made me feel ashamed of who I was. For this reason, my environment in middle school influenced my dreams. I had this same experience in high school, especially when I was 18 but in a positive way.

I was now treated as a valuable person as oppose to when I was in middle school. It is really going to be a bittersweet moment when I have to go off to college. I did not go into this sport thinking that I would come out of it being more outgoing than I had ever thought possible. The other day I walked into practice and just took a moment to think about how far I have come. I had never really thought about it before. It blew my mind that a shy girl turned into this outgoing and confident girl. As a senior captain, I was given the opportunity to visit the local elementary and middle schools throughout the year to coach and mentor girls that wanted to play basketball in high school. It occurred to me that I had been in their shoes not too long before.

I remembered how much I admired the varsity team when I was a younger and how I would have done anything to be just like them.
