He went from a man who needed an extra push in order to carry out such an evil plan to one who was able to orchestrate his own scheme.

Macbeth openly shows his guilt and it is easy to understand where the guilt is coming from, whereas in the case of Lady Macbeth her guilt is very hidden and hard to interpret. As the story unfolds Lady Macbeth is so consumed by guilt for her evil acts that she eventually loses her mind. Eventually she is reduced to sleepwalking through the castle, desperately trying to wash away an invisible bloodstain. After the killing of Duncan Lady Macbeth accidently hints that she was unable to kill Duncan herself and at this point shows her first signs of mental weakness. After this point they basically change places, Lady Macbeth becomes and insignificant and weak character in the play, who spirals downwards into insanity.

On the other hand Macbeth steps up and plans for himself to murder many more people as his mental strength has significantly grown. In other words, Lady Macbeth is put in her place, sleepwalking through the palace while her man, Macbeth, makes all the decisions. Although it is not obvious that Lady Macbeth and Macbeth feel guilt towards their murder of Duncan, when explored it is clear that they both are and for different reasons. Whilst Lady Macbeth feels the guilt for doing an evil act. We can see that they both feel guilt but it is a guilt for different reasons, and these reasons are influenced by their characteristics.
